The days of Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek of the early 2000′s are now a distant memory for Buffalo Sabres fans, many who have stayed faithful to their team through their struggles recently. At one point they were widely considered one of the best teams in the NHL, but never seemed to be able to put things together when it came time for the playoffs. With their teams core coming of age all at the same time the sabres were forced to dealoff some of their key pieces in order to sign big names like Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller. But now they are gone and it is time to put the past behind them, after two years in the basement in the NHL it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Rick Rypien was a NHL player most hockey fans knew because of the fights he fought on the ice during games. He was one of the leagues toughest enforcers. No one, except for a few people he opened up to knew of the fight he was putting up with off the ice, battling with depression. (more…)
Last years biggest surprise of the season had to be the Calgary Flames, they had been in the basement of the NHL for years and really hadn’t shown to much promise to get out. The Flames have one of the most passionate fan bases in the league and have really struggled to be a prominent playoff team in an extremely difficult Western Conference. The Flames finished the 2013-2014 season with a record of 35-40-7, finishing 13th in the western conference and failing to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. (more…)
Last season was one that Boston Bruins fans would probably like to forget, the B’s missed the second wild card spot by only two points. It snapped a seven year playoff streak, where they went to two Stanley Cup finals and won one in 2011. (more…)
On July 10th, to really the surprise of no one who pays attention to hockey, the Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Patrick Sharp and defensive prospect Stephen Johns to the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Trevor Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt. As usual, when the free agency period began on July 1st, there was a flurry of activity from teams trying to sign the new players available in the hopes of bolstering a club for the upcoming season. And like with every season, there were teams and certain players that made out like bandits while others were left in the dust before they realized what had happened.
