How the Lockout is Impacting the Eastern Conference
Now to analyze the players that were assigned to the Eastern Conference as a result of the lockout. (Note: Being assigned does not guarantee that they will play in the AHL)
The Phantoms received a total twenty six players from their parent club the Flyers. Among these players, three; Sean Couturier, Zac Rinaldo, and Brayden Schenn, spent the majority of last season with the Flyers and made substantial contributions to their season. Others who were sent down that spent some time up with the Flyers in the NHL include Erik Gustafsson, Brandon Manning, Ben Holmstrom, Eric Wellwood and Harry Zolnierczyk. Rounding out this group are goaltenders Cal Heeter, and Niko Hovinen, defensemen Cullen Eddy, Tyler Hostetter, Blake Kessel, Matthew Konn, and Oliver Lauridsen, and forwards Jason Akeson, Tyler Brown, Matt Ford, Shane Harper, Andrew Johnston, Matt Mangene, Tye McGinn, Marcel Noebels, Luke Pither, and Mike Testwuide.
The Eastern Conference Champion New Jersey Devils assigned twenty four players to the Albany Devils. Key standout assignments include rookie and playoff star Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson and 2011 fourth overall draft pick Adam Larsson. The other players assigned are Matt Anderson, Jean-Sebastien Berube, Brandon Burlon, Bobby Butler, Maxime Clermont, Jeff Frazee, Eric Gelinas, Mike Hoeffel, Dan Kelly, Keith Kinkaid, Jay Leach, Harri Pesonen, Tim Sestito, Mike Sislo, Mattias Tedenby, Alexander Urbom, Scott Wedgewood, Chad Wiseman, David Wohlberg, Harry Young, and Steve Zalewski.
The Ottawa Senators did not formally assign any players to their AHL affiliation the Binghamton Senators.
The Sound Tigers received twenty four players from their parent club the New York Islanders. Two first round draft picks are among the players assigned to the Sound Tigers, including 2006 pick Ty Wishart and 2010 pick Nino Niederreiter. Others that were assigned are Sean Backman, Colin McDonald, Matt Watkins, Nathan McIver, Marc Cantin, Casey Cizikas, Jason Clark, Calvin de Haan, Brandon DeFazio, Matt Donovan, Mike Halmo, Travis Hamonic, Kirill Kabanov, Jon Landry, Brock Nelson, Aaron Ness, Anders Nilsson, John Persson, Kevin Poulin, Blair Riley, Johan Sundstrom and David Ullstrom.
The New York Rangers assigned a total of eight players to their farm club in Connecticut. The Whale received three defensemen and five forwards. Among the defensemen assigned are Sean Collins, Logan Pyett, and Mike Verance. The five forwards that were assigned are Tommy Grant, Micheal Haley, Chad Kolarik, Kris Newbury, and Brandon Segal.
The Hershey Bears received a total of twenty one players from their parent club the Washington Capitals. Key standouts are playoff standout goaltenders Braden Holtby and defensemen Dmitry Orlov. Others assigned include forwards Mike Carman, Stanislav Galiev, Garrett Mitchell, Danick Paquette, Mattias Sjogren, Matt Clackson, Zach Hamill, Ryan Potulny and Ryan Stoa. Defensemen Brett Flemming, Tomas Kundratek, Cameron Schilling, Dustin Stevenson, Kevin Marshall, Patrick McNeill and Garrett Stafford. The Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings have assigned eighteen players to their farm club the Manchester Monarchs. The Monarchs received Stanley Cup Champion Voynov from the Kings. Others assigned include goaltenders J.F. Berube and Martin Jones, defensemen Nicolas Deslauriers, David Kolomatis, and Andrew Bodnarchuk. Among the forwards who were assigned include Stefan Legein, David Meckler, Andy Andreoff, Robert Czarnik, Brandon Kozun, Andrei Loktionov, Jordan Nolan, Brian O’Neill, Tanner Pearson,Nikolay Prokhorkin, Tyler Toffoli, Linden Vey, and Jordan Weal.
The Norfolk Admiral received eighteen players from their new parent club the Anaheim Ducks. Key members of this group include 2010 Stanley Cup Champion Jordan Hendry, 2010 first round pick Emerson Etem, and 2009 first round pick Kyle Palmieri. Other the Admirals received include Frederik Andersen, Igor Bobkov, Josh Brittain, Mat Clark, Marco Cousineau, Corey Elkins, Peter Holland, Matt Kennedy, Ryan Lasch, Brandon McMillan, John Mitchell, Devante Smith-Pelly, Sami Vatanen, Christ Wagner, and Hampus Lindholm.
The Phoenix Coyotes assigned a total of twenty nine players to their farm club, the Portland Pirates. Standouts include 2006 first round draft pick Chris Summers, 2009 first round draft pick Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and 2011 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner Andy Miele. Other who were assigned include forwards Scott Arnold, Alexandre Bolduc, Chris Brown, Chris Conner, Brett Hextall, Rob Klinkhammer, Phil Lane, Jordan Martinook, Joel Rechlicz, Brendan Shinnimin, Jordan Szwarz and Ethan Werek. Defensemen Mathieu Brodeur, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Maxim Goncharov, Brandon Gormley, Mark Louis, David Rundblad, Michael Stone, and Justin Weller; and goaltenders Louis Domingue, Chad Johnson, Mike Lee, Mark Visentin.
The Providence Bruins received twenty three players from their parent club the Boston Bruins. Among the players received is Jordon Caron, a first round draft pick from 2009. The other players that were assigned to Providence include Matt Bartkowski, Ryan Button, Carter Camper, Colby Cohen, Tommy Cross, Craig Cunningham, Justin Florek, Michael Hutchinson, Jared Knight, Torey Krug, Kevan Miller, Adam Morrison, Tyler Randell, Max Sauve, Ryan Spooner, Niklas Svedberg, Zack Trotman, Garnet Exelby, Christian Hanson, Jamie Tardif, Trent Whitfield, and David Warsofsky.
The Buffalo Sabres assigned a total of twenty two players to their AHL affiliate the Rochester Americans. The Sabres’ standout rookies Marcus Foligno and Corey Tropp, AHL 2011 All-Star Luke Adam, NHL veteran Nick Tarnasky and 2008 first round draft pick Cody Hodgson are among the players who are to report to Rochester. Others who were assigned to Rochester include forwards Riley Boychuk, Brian Flynn, Zemgus Girgensons, Jacob Lagace, Jonathan Parker, Keven Sundher, Sawn Szydlowski, Phil Varone and Kevin Porter; defensemen Alex Biega, Nick Crawford, Jerone Gauthier-Leduc, Matt MacKenzie, Brayden McNabb, Marke Pysyk; goaltenders Connor Knapp and Nathan Lieuwen.
The Springfield Falcons received twenty five players from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Tim Erixon, a first round draft pick from 2009 is among the players assigned to the Falcons. Others include forwards Cam Atkinson, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Matt Calvert, Michael Chaput, Sean Collins, Oliver Gabriel, Jake Hansen, Ryan Johansen, Tomas Kubalik, Cody Basss, Nick Drazenovic, Andrew Joudrey, Ryan Russell and Dalton Smith; defensemen Anton Blomqvist, Nick Holden, Cody Goloubef, Austin Madaisky, John Moore, Dalton Prout, Theo Ruth, David Savard and Will Weber; and goaltender Allen York.
The Tampa Bay Lightning assigned eighteen players to the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch. Among these players are rookie standout Brett Connolly, 2011 first round draft pick Vladislav Namestnikov, and 2006 first round draft pick Riku Helenius. Others include forwards J.T. Brown, Cory Conacher, Danick Gauthier, Alex Hutchings, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Richard Panik and Alexander Killorn. The defensemen who were assigned inlcude Mark Barberio, Radko Gudas, Dmitry Korobov, Charles Landry, and Dan Milan. Finally the goaltenders who were assigned are Pat Nagle and Dustin Tokarski.
The Baby Pens received twenty three players from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Among these players are forwards Beau Bennett, Brian Gibbons, Tom Kuhnhackl, Jayson Megna, Adam Payerl, Zach Sill, Paul Thompson, Dominik Uher, Keven Veilleux, Philippe Dupuis, Benn Ferriero, Riley Holzapfel, Warren Peters and Trevor Smith. Defensemen Simon Despres, Brian Dumoulin, Reid McNeill, Joe Morrow, Philip Samuelsson, Carl Sneep, Alex Grant and Dylan Reese; and goaltender Patrick Killeen.
The San Jose Sharks assigned a total of sixteen players to their AHL counterpart the Worchester Sharks. This group included Curt Gogol, Freddie Hamilton, Bracken Kearns, James Livingston, Jon Matsumoto, Travis Oleksuk, Brodie Reid, Sebastian Stalberg. Also among this group are defensemen Sena Acolatse, Danny Groulx, Taylor Doherty, Matt Irwin, and Matt Tennyson; and goaltenders Thomas Heemskerk, Harri Sateri, and Alex Stalock.
