Subban unlikely to sign in Montreal by midnight on the 15th
It’s not looking to pleasant for Montreal Canadiens fans as it appears that restricted free-agent P.K. Subban will not be re-signing in Montreal by midnight on the 15th. The report comes from Renaud Lavoie (@RenLavoieRDS) via his Twitter account.
Don’t expect the Canadiens to sign PK Subban before midnight on the 15. If it happen, it will be a big surprise. Nobody expect one.
The 23-year old is said to be looking for a long-term extension from Montreal but the Canadiens aren’t too keen on the idea. Multiple reports suggest they’d be more comfortable signing him to a 2-year deal rather than signing him long-term at this point in his career.
The Toronto, ON native was drafted in the 2nd round (43rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft by the very same Canadiens organization.
There is still a small possibility that Subban and the Canadiens come to an agreement before midnight on the 15th, although it would come as a shock to the hockey world.
Having played in 160 career NHL games, the defender has picked up 76 points, scoring 21 goals and adding 55 assists. Thus far, Subban has received 245 penalty minutes on his career, while his career plus-minus rating sits at +2.
This past season, Subban recorded 7 goals and 29 assists for 36 points in 81 games.
