Per Patrick Steinberg of Sportsnet’s radio the Fan 960, the Calgary Flames have traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for what appears to be a 7th round draft pick in this years draft.
The Stockholm, Sweden native has played in 26 career NHL games throughout the past two seasons with the Flames, posting a 2.79 goals-against average and .905% save percentage for a 5-9-8 record.
The Flames acquired the rights to the 29-year old back at the 2010 draft from the San Jose Sharks, giving up a 6th round pick for the 6′ 5″ 215lbs undrafted goalie.
The move opens up an extra contract spot for the Flames, who are now down to 47 contracts (league limit of 50).
Karlsson has since been assigned to the Blackhawks top affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
