Galchenyuk and Gallagher Impressive for Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens are off to an impressive 6-3-0 start in the 2012-2013 season. Not only has the Canadiens start been impressive but the play of the teams two roster rookies, Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher has caught the eye of many hockey fans in Montreal and across the nation.

Alex and Brendan were unsure if they would crack the opening night roster when they first arrived for training camp but after the five day camp was completed, Marc Beregevin and company deciding to keep Alex Galchenyuk up for his five game limit on his entry-level contract and surprise many by keeping small size Brendan Gallagher with the big club placing them as linemates on the Canadiens third line along with off-season signing Brandon Prust. Eight games into the NHL season for the Habs and it looks like the Canadiens have made the right decision by keeping the two Gallys up with the team for the time being.

Galchenyuk has played in all eight Canadiens games this season, posting up one goal and six assists for seven points and a plus five rating. Alex netted his first goal in the NHL on January 22nd against Jose Theodore and the Florida Panthers. Gallagher has played in seven of the eight games this season, posting three goals and two assists for five points and a plus six rating.

If Alex can continue his strong play, hockey fans would not be surprised to see his name come into contention for the Calder Trophy this season.
