Penguins Game Day (Game 15: Jets)
Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Canada to take on the Winnipeg Jets, this will be their second and final meeting of the season. In their last outing the Jets were capable of pulling off a victory by the score of 4-2.
The game marked Crasby’s first appearance in Winnipeg since the Atlanta Thrashers moved there one season ago. Crosby didn’t disappoint. Just 4:26 into the game he cored to give the Pens a very early lead. Then, roughly 10 minutes later Crosby notched his 3rd goal of the season to give the Guins a 2-0 lead in the first period. Unfortunately the second period was all Jets as they outscored the Penguins 3-0 in that period and took a 3-2 lead. The third period came and went as the Pens were once again outscore 1-0. Kane, Byfuglien, Ladd, and Wheeler all scored to lead the Jets to their second win of the season.
Game Time: 7:00pm est
Pittsburgh(9-5-0) @ Winnipeg (5-6-1)
What to Watch for
Beau Bennet has been called up from Wilkes-Barre and appears to be making his debut against the Jets. It is still unsure what role he will play on the team, but the long term goal is to have him play along Malkin or Crosby.
Eric Tangradi was traded to the Jets just two days ago, this move opened up a roster spot that allowed Bennett to be recalled. Most importantly it has given Tangradi a chance to play on a team where he will see more ice time than he would have in Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately the Senators game brought a lot of negativity towards Matt Cooke due to the accidental injury he placed on Eric Karlsson late in the third period. If it wasn’t for that, people would be talking more about how Cooke look very comfortable playing with Neal and Malkin for much of the second half of the game. He was so comfortable that he has become the only left winger this season to score a point while playing on the 2nd line. Look for Cooke to start off on that line tonight, with Bennett possibly getting a few shifts along Geno throughout the game.
Still unconfirmed but it is believed Fleury will get the Start for Pittsburgh and Pavlec will get the start for Winnipeg.
Orpik will skate in his 600th career game as a Penguin. Only Lemieux, Kehoe, Pronovost, Schock and Jagr have played as many games in a Penguins sweater.
The Penguins have scored first in each away game they have played this year.
