Penguins Game Day (Game 17: Flyers)

The Penguins will start a 3 game home stand tonight as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers for their second meeting of the season.

The Penguins have been dominating the month of February going 7-2 and holding their opponents to no more than 3 goals per game. Pittsburgh will look to extend their 3 game win streak tonight and regain the lead in the Conference and the Division.

Philadelphia has had a rough season so far. Inconsistent offense and a struggling defense has left the team with only 15 points placing them 4th in the Division and 10th in the Conference. Bryzgalov looks to start for the 16th time of the season.

Game Time: 7:30pm est

Philadelphia(7-9-1) @ Pittsburgh(11-5-0)

Last Meeting was January 19:  Pens Won 3-1

What To Watch For

Daniel Brier has been a player that loves to terrorize the Penguins. Look for him to lead the charge tonight.

In what is expected to be his first home game of the season, Beau Bennett will be challenged going against the Penguins biggest Rival, the Philadelphia Flyers. I say look for Bennett to have a bit of a coming out party tonight.

Maybe the only consistent player on the Flyers, Ilya Bryzgalov has finally started to earn his keep.

Sidney Crosby is second in the league with 24 points and has had an amazing February. Without a doubt he will continue his impressive play tonight against the Flyers.

Voracek leads the Flyers with 15 points in 17 games. Its a bit of a surprise since Giroux was believed to be the man to carry the team.

Early Norris Candidate Kris Letang has been unbelievable this season. He has become a mentor to the young Simone Despres as well as improved his game tremendously. He has been very consistent and should be considered as one of , if not, the top defense-man in the league.

Penguins Buzz

Rumor has it that Ray Shero is interested in Minnesota’s Matt Cullen.

Mark Eaton participated in the Penguins game day morning skate today. Eaton was recently released from a PTO with the Wilkes-Barre Penguins. I see a good shot at him signing a 2 way contract, just to add some depth to the defense.

Vokoun who is 1-1 in the month of February will get the start in net against the Flyers.

Around The League

Not too much going on in the league, but I have listed what I believe to be the Top Five Sellers and Buyers prior to the trade deadline.

Sellers: Islanders, Panthers, Stars, Wild, Flames

Buyers: Penguins, Bruins, Rangers, Red Wings, San Jose

Not much to go on except of all the rumors that have been going around. These are the teams most likely to be dealing on or prior to the Deadline.

Other Games Tonight

Blues @ Avalanche   /   Kings @ Flames
