Penguins Game Day (Game 18: Panthers)

Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins welcome the Florida Panthers to the CONSOL Energy Center in their first meeting of the year. The Panthers seem to have lost the success they had just one season ago, but do not think they are not a talented team. With players such as Stephen Weiss, Brian Campbell, Thomas Fleischmann and Jonathan Huberdeau this team can be just as dangerous as any.

The Penguins are coming off a tough loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday and they look to get right back into the wins column. Florida is coming off of a win against the Flyers just one night ago, a game that the Panthers outscored Philadelphia 5-2.

Game Time: 7:00pm est

Florida(5-7-4) @ Pittsburgh(11-6-0)

What to Watch for

The Penguins Power Play is ranked 2nd in the league succeeding at a 27.5% rate, it is only second to the St. Louis Blues Power Play. At Home the story is a bit different only succeeding at a 26.7% rate places them at 6th in the league.

Jonathan Huberdeau of the Florida Panthers is having one heck of a rookie season ranking second among rookies and trailing only Cory Conacher of Tampa Bay.

James Neal looks to continue his tear on the NHL as he builds on his league leading 12 goals tonight. (tied with Vanek)

Penguins Buzz

Marc-Andre Fleury (8-3-0) Will get the start in net.

Expect to see Simon Despres in the line up as he has been a healthy scratch the past two. He and Bortuzzo will continue to split playing time as the year progresses.

Sidney Crosby is no stranger to criticism but Mike Milbury may have gone too far once again in comparing the Penguins Super Star to crack addicts. Crosby did fire back but only in a way Crosby could.

It’s rumored that Daniel Alfredsson may be targeted by the Penguins if he becomes available at the Trade Deadline.

Around the League

Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers will have a discipline hearing today for what appeared to be a blatant Knee on Knee hit to Cal Clutterbuck of the Minnesota Wild last night.  Yahoo sports
