Pacific Division 7 in 7: Anaheim Ducks

anaheim ducks trade rumors

We start out the week of Pacific Division 7 in  7s with the Anaheim Ducks. They finished 3rd overall in the regular season in 2012-13 but were eliminated in the first round by the Detroit Red Wings. I do not believe they will make the same mistake again. Read on, and learn about the Anaheim Ducks.

Should be Lines

Penner – Getzlaf – Perry

Silfverberg – Koivu – Selanne

Etem – Bonino – Palmieri

Winnik – Holland – Cogliano

Beauchemin – Sbisa

Fowler – Souray

Vatanen – Lovejoy

Hiller

Fasth

Reasons

I put Penner, Getzlaf and Perry together because I think they are the best of their positions on the team and their chemistry is great from the year when the won the cup.

The new addition Silfverberg is too good for the 3rd or 4th line, so I decided to put him with Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne. All three are projected to get around 50 points so I decided this was a good move.

Etem and Palmieri on the 3rd line was a bit of a given, but I decided to put Bonino with them because I thought it would increase not only his point total, but theirs too.

The fourth line is the way it is because those were the best players available. Despite this I still believe they will play great.

In my opinion Sbisa and Beauchemin are the best D in Anaheim so making that decision was not hard.

Fowler and Souray are a great match on the 2nd line because they are a combination of young and old talent. Souray provides experience while Fowler provides youth. It is a win-win.

I chose Vatanen and Lovejoy on the 3rd line because I think that they would be good together, plus they are the 5th and 6th best defencemen on the team.

I chose Hiller over Fasth because I believe experience is key for  a starting goalie. Don’t get me wrong, they Fasth will most likely play almost as many minutes.

Who They Should Target in the 2014 Draft

Jayce Hawrychuk – Anaheim needs centres, and this is a great year for centres. The only problem is that most of the centres are very good, too good for Anaheim’s draft pick. Hawrychuk is a skilled centre who can score goals, pass well, and is a great overall forward.

X-Factor

Jakub Silfverberg

Silfverberg needs to live up to expectations after being a big part of the Bobby Ryan trade. He is expected to get around 50 points, last season he got 10 goals and 19 points in 48 games, on pace for something around 35 or 36 points. Will he live up to the expectations given? We will have to wait and see.
