Penguins Off Season Update 9/4/2013
In one week our Pittsburgh Penguins will head to CONSOL Energy center and begin preparations for the 2013/14 season. Are you Ready?
Before you know it, October 3rd will be here and the Penguins will take the ice for the first home game of the year. But before we get there, lets take a look at some upcoming dates, whats been going on with the team and what you may have missed this past summer.
Upcoming Dates to keep in mind.
Sept 5 – Rookie Tournament in London Ontario
Sept 11 – Training Camp opens
Sept 15 – @ Columbus 6pm
Sept 16 – Detroit 7pm
Sept 19 – @ Chicago TBA
Sept 21 – Columbus 4pm
Sept 23 – Chicago 7pm
Sept 25 – @ Detroit 7:30pm
All six Pre-Season Games WILL be televised. So Check your local listings.

Oct 1 – First Day of Regular Season
Oct 3 – Penguins Home Opener vs. Devils
It would seem Matt Niskanen is weel aware that his time in Pittsburgh may be limited. According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
“I know the situation we’re in, being over the cap, It’s pretty evident that Ray [Shero, the general manager] has to make a decision. Someone who probably otherwise is a regular on our roster [will be traded].”
Late last week the Penguins announced their 2013/14 Promotional Schedule. Some Key dates to keep in mind. January 20th is Team USA Coach Dan Bylsma Bobblehead night and April 13th Fan Appreciation Night.
What you may have missed.
Dan Bylsma and Ray Shero are named Head Coach and Assistant GM respectively to the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.
Long time goaltending Coach Gilles Meloche steps down from role with team.
Bylsma, Shero and Management state they have confidence in Marc-Andre Fleury and he will be the teams #1 man next season (2013/14).
Penguins signed Evegni Malkin to an 8 year extension worth $76 million.
Ray Shero and Dan Bylsma agreed to a 3 year contract extension for the Stanley Cup winning Coach.
Minutes before the start of the 2013 Draft Ray Shero traded away Tyler Kennedy to the San Jose Sharks for a Second round pick.
Penguins Defenseman Kris Letang agreed to an 8 year $58 million contract extension
The Penguins then traded up in the draft and with their first pick selected Goaltender Tristan Jarry.
On opening day of Free Agency, Ray Shero and company made a splash by signing Fan Favorite Rob Scuderi to a 4 year contract.
Penguins hire Goaltending development Coach Mike Bales as the Teams Goaltending Coach.

Many teams are still in need of clearing Cap space. Flyers, Penguins, Bruins, Red Wings, Sharks and Kings. Look for these teams to make some cap clearing moves within the next few weeks.
