NHL Rumor updates from around the web for December 13th, 2013:
Calgary Herald reports the Calgary Flames have been granted permission to speak with former Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk for the Flames vacant GM position. Other candidates could include former Sabres GM Darcy Regier, as well as Leafs assistant GM Claude Loiselle, AHL Toronto Marlies GM Dave Poulin and Nashville assistant manager Paul Fenton.
CSNWashington reports Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov may be willing to remain with the club, telling the media he’d be willing to stay if he’s getting playing time.
CBS Sports reports Chicago Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane could both get more than $11-million per year on their next deals due to the rising salary cap. Both are set to become UFA’s in the summer of 2015.
The Fourth Period reports Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff continues to get calls on Evander Kane, but won’t move unless he gets an offer he can’t refuse. TFP claims the Rangers, Flyers, Islanders, Panthers and a few others have kicked tires on Kane, with the Canadiens and Flyers being the most aggressive.
CSNNE suggests the Boston Bruins will be interested in Evander Kane if/when the Jets get tired of his act.
The Fourth Period reports the Carolina Hurricanes are most likely looking to move Justin Peters, and the club is in the market to add defenseman and a second-line scorer.
