Sharks Sign F Scott; Acquire F McGinn from Philadelphia for Pick

The Sharks announced on Wednesday that the team has signed Forward John ScottĀ  from Buffalo to a 1 year, $700,000 deal. The team also announced that they have acquired Forward Tye McGinn from the Flyers in exchange for a 2015 3rd round draft pick.

Scott, 31, has 2 goals and 4 assists IN HIS WHOLE CAREER in 236 games; that’s a whooping .025 points per game, which is the lowest in the league. Obviously, this was not a pickup to help the team offensively, unless Doug Wilson is on something. Lets be honest, this signing is to help protect the young guys, we really could have used the 6-foot-8 260 pound agitator in that December game in LA where Kings Captain Dustin Brown knocked Sharks rookie sensation Tomas Hertl out of the lineup for the rest of the regular season. Scott could have given Brown a little how-do-ya-do. I do not like this pick-up at all, they already have the bash brothers (Raffi Torres, Andrew Desjardins, and Mike Brown), and do not forget Adam Burish, that is 5 4th line guys. I guess they could move Torres up to the 3rd line, and Brown, Burish and Scott could rotate through, but I still see Scott as a waste of space, and a lot of it (get it). Scott is the heaviest player to ever play in the NHL, and he is tied for second behind, of course, Zdeno Chara for the tallest.

Enough about Scott, lets talk about the move that really excites me personally, Tye McGinn, younger brother of former Shark Jamie McGinn, is an up-and-coming AHLer. McGinn is 23 years of age and has played 36 games in the NHL, in those games, he has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points, he was Philadelphia’s leading scorer until the Flyers GM (stupidly) decided to send him down. He went on to be Adirondack’s 3rd leading scorer with 20 goals and 15 assists in 54 games. In my opinion, he could definitely challenge for a roster spot this October.

The Sharks have not made any major moves yet this off season, so expect more to come.
