Canucks Acquire Baertschi and Conacher at Trade Deadline

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they had acquired forwards Sven Baertschi and Cory Conacher in separate Trade Deadline deals with the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders respectively. 

Baertschi, 22, was brought in from Calgary, with the Canucks sending a 2nd Round pick in the 2015 Draft to the Flames. Baertschi has played 15 games for Calgary this season, picking up 4 assists and 6 penalty minutes during that span. Most of his season has been spent playing with the Flames’ AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Flames, where he’s scored 25 points and added 6 penalty minutes in 36 games. Hailing from Bern, Switzerland, Baertschi¬†was originally by selected by Calgary 13th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Conacher, 25, was picked up from the Islanders, with forward Dustin Jeffery heading to New York in return. Conacher has played 15 games for the Islanders this year, earning 3 points and 14 penalty minutes. The Burlington, Ontario native has played 28 games this season for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders’ AHL affiliate. Conacher has scored 22 points for the Tigers this season, as well as picking up 30 penalty minutes. After going undrafted, Conacher signed his first NHL contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012, and has made stops with the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres before signing with New York last offseason.

Both players are expected to report to the Utica Comets, the Canucks’ AHL affiliate.
