3 Things to Watch For: Ducks vs. Kings – Preseason Game #2
The Ducks lost in their first taste of 3-on-3 overtime against the Colorado Avalanche, 5-4. They look to rebound tonight (9/25) against the arch-rival Kings. Here are three things to be on the lookout for.
1. The New Guys
Kevin Bieksa, Shawn Horcoff, and Chris Stewart will all be skating in their first game as Ducks. Stewart will likely play alongside captain Ryan Getzlaf, while Horcoff will likely play as the third or fourth line center. Bieksa skated with Hampus Lindholm in camp, so it is possible that they are paired together tonight. Carl Hagelin will not be playing tonight. He will likely dress tomorrow against the Sharks in San Jose.
2. Frederik Andersen
Andersen will be in net tonight for the Ducks. In his career against the Kings, he has a 3.07 GAA with a .893 save percentage. This game will be a big test for him as his proposed backup Anton Khudobin has publicly stated he is vying for the starting job. Andersen will need to have a good game to instill the confidence in Head Coach Bruce Boudreau that he is still the go-to ‘tender.
Side Note: Khudobin will likely start tomorrow (9/26) in San Jose.
3. Freeway Physicality
Both teams are extremely physical. There is a decent chance we might witness a fight or two and will definitely see several scraps. The Ducks will likely have Shane O’Brien playing tonight, and if his camp is any attest to his overall game, the Kings will have their hands full. It is also possible that Brian McGrattan, a true enforcer, plays tonight.
I strongly suggest tuning in to this one. It begins at 7PM on Prime Ticket (local) and NHL Network (national).
Hockey is back.
