Doesn’t seem like Taylor Hall has too much to worry about for the next 8 seasons. The 20-year old has just reportedly signed a 7-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers according to James Mirtle (@mirtle) of the Toronto Globe and Mail. Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) later tweeted that the deal is worth $42 million in total, meaning that Hall will make an average of $6 million per season once his new deal starts in the 2013-14 season.

Edmonton Oilers reporter for TSN, Ryan Rishaug (@TSNRyanRishaug), had reported on August 13th that the Oilers had started preliminary talks with both Hall and Jordan Eberle.

Now today, here we are learning that the 1st overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft has resigned with the Oilers for 7 more seasons.

Hall is heading into the final year of his entry-level contract which pays him $900,000 in annual salary along with $2.85 million in potential bonuses and an extra $90,000 in signing bonuses.

The Calgary, AB native has played in 126 games over his first two seasons in the NHL, missing the other 38 games due to multiple injuries (head, shoulder, ankle). Over the 126 games that he had played in though, Hall has scored 49 goals and had added 46 assists for a total of 95 points. He is a career -12 thus far and has received 63 penalty minutes over his first two seasons.

This past season, Hall scored 27 goals and added 26 assists for 53 points while playing in just 61 games. 7 of his 27 goals ended up being game winners. Also finishing the season a -3, Hall had improved in every category this past year and hopes to continue improving his numbers this upcoming season.

With Hall now signed long-term, the Oilers are hoping to do the same with Jordan Eberle. It is expected that Eberle’s next contract will pay him in the neighborhood of $6 million per season as well. Ryan Rishaug tweeted this shortly after the Hall signing:

Would expect Eberle deal to be done shortly. Likely same money, not sure if term will be the same. Perhaps shorter. #TSN

The 22-year old scored a very impressive 34 goals this past season, improving from his 2010-11 rookie campaign in which he had scored 18 goals. Along with that, the Regina, SK native also assisted on 42 goals, giving him a total of 76 points in just 78 games.

The 22nd overall pick of the 2008 NHL Draft has registered 52 goals and 67 assists for 119 points in 147 games over his first two NHL seasons.
